Starting bootloader
Before you can write the updated firmware, you will need to get your FlySight ready to communicate with FLIP. There are two ways to do this, depending on how old your current firmware is.
Older firmware
If you received your FlySight before November 1, 2010, and haven't updated the firmware yourself, chances are you have the old firmware. In that case, you'll need to open FlySight's case to program it. After you've updated the firmware once, you'll be able to use the instructions below, which don't require you to open the case.

When handling the FlySight's printed circuit board, it is important to observe the following precautions:

First, remove the two small screws on the outside of FlySight's case.
Next, remove the single screw on the inside of the case.
Remove the FlySight from its case. Now, connect the FlySight to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The FlySight should show up as a drive. Finally, push the small button on the bottom side of the board to put the FlySight in update mode.
The FlySight drive should disappear, and you should see no lights on the FlySight board. The FlySight is now ready to be updated. At this point, if you're using Windows, you may see a message telling you the device could not be identified. We'll deal with that in the next step.
Newer firmware
If you received your FlySight after November 1, 2010, you probably have the new firmware.
With the FlySight unplugged from your PC and turned off, toggle the switch quickly on-off-on-off-on-off (i.e., cycling the power three times). Now, connect the FlySight to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The FlySight should not appear as a drive, and the FlySight's light should be off. Otherwise, you may not have cycled the power quickly enough, or you may need to follow the instructions for the older firmware above.
The FlySight is now ready to be updated. At this point, if you're using Windows, you may see a message telling you the device could not be identified. We'll deal with that in the next step.
